How to Detect a lie?

Looking at the facial expressions of a person to determine whether or not he or she is lying might just save you from being a victim of fraud. Or it could help you know if it's safe to trust your heart and get involved with an attractive stranger. It takes a little practice but having this skill can be fascinating! To get started, read on...

Do the handshake test- Have you ever wanted to know what a person thinks of you? You can learn a lot by just shaking their hand. When you reach out to shake someone’s hand, present them with your hand in a straight up and down manner. Make sure to allow them to twist your hand, however they like. Note what they do with your hand:
If they shake your hand in an up and down manner, they see you as an equal.
If they twist your palm up towards the ceiling or crush it, they see you as inferior.
If they present you with their palm facing the ceiling, they see you as superior.

Listen to tone, cadence, and sentence structures- Often when a person is lying they will slightly change the tone and cadence of their speech. They might start speaking more quickly or slowly, and with either a higher or lower tone. Often, the sentences they use become more complex as their brain works on overdrive to keep up with their tale.
Ask open-ended questions to get them to provide as many details and as much complete information as possible (“Can you tell me more about…?” “Tell me exactly…”). First ask general questions, and only then get more specific. Don’t interrupt, let them talk and use silent pauses to encourage them to talk.

Repeating words or phrases- This happens because they're trying to convince you, and themselves, of something, she says. “They’re trying to validate the lie in their mind.” For example, he or she may say: "I didn't...I didn't..." over and over again, Glass says. The repetition is also a way to buy themselves time as they attempt to gather their thoughts, she adds.
