If Opportunity Doesn't Knock, Build A Door

If you're a student trying to get a scholarship for instance, opportunity not knocking means no one is offering you scholarships, or you haven't seen one you're eligible for. To build a door here could mean putting yourself in places where scholarships are offered, like school talks, or philanthropic foundations. It could also mean improving yourself academically or in a different field like sports or arts, to a level that will qualify you for certain scholarships.

Whatever the analogy, the crux of this quote is action. You can choose how much and how drastic of an action you want to take to get that opportunity, it could be anything from self-improvement to networking, but you still need to take that action to attain the opportunity.
